Australia and New Zealand

Australia and New Zealand produce a vast range of styles and prices of wines. There are a fantastic number of wines that are very affordable, and the wines from this area of the world range from very good to outstanding. There is an Australian or New Zealander wine for everyone. There are many types of dry reds and whites, as well as many port-style and other fortified dessert wines.

Although Shiraz is the same grape as Syrah, Australian Shiraz tends to follow more of a more "New World" style of having brighter fruit and less earthiness compared to some of its French counterparts. If you are unfamiliar with New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, they are a radically different experience than Sauvignon Blancs from most other places, which are often fairly herbacious in character (good in their own right, but different). Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand tend to have smooth and delicious fruit aromas and flavors, such as melon, pear, tropical fruits, and others.
